With over 150,000 people in attendance in 2019, the Chinese New Year Festival in Box Hill is the biggest annual event in the City of Whitehorse on 1st February 2020.

Central Box Hill comes alive with people, colour, movement and sound. Dragon dancers weave through the crowd to the beat of drums. The festival showcases wonderful music, singing and dancing from our local community. Festival goers can enjoy games, rides, firecracker displays, music and performances, and market stalls selling souvenirs and delicious food.

This year we have new and exciting activities for people of all ages including a bar area! So come on down and enjoy a day with us!

Local residents come along in droves as do many visitors from across Melbourne. It’s a fantastic atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to the bustling streets of Beijing, Hong Kong or Kuala Lumpur. It’s a wonderful way to showcase Box Hill and all that it has to offer to both regular and new visitors.

Celebrated for centuries, Chinese New Year brings families together and many follow the tradition of cleansing the house in order to sweep away any ill-fortune of the previous year and to make way for good luck.
